The coconut is often called the "tree of life" because virtually every part of it can be used. At S&S Coco Trading, we process coconuts into several valuable by-products, each with unique applications. Here's a guide to what's available and how each product is used.
Cocopeat (Coir Pith)
Our flagship product. Cocopeat is the spongy material left after extracting fiber from coconut husks. It's primarily used as a growing medium for plants, seed germination, and soil amendment. Cocopeat is popular with nurseries, landscape companies, and hydroponic farms across Malaysia.
Coconut Husk
The outer shell of the coconut, coconut husk is used for making rope, brushes, and mats. In agriculture, husk chips are used as mulch and orchid growing medium. Coconut husk is also used as biomass fuel in factories and power plants.
Coconut Fiber (Coir Fiber)
Extracted from coconut husks, coir fiber is strong, durable, and naturally resistant to saltwater. It's used in mattress manufacturing, erosion control blankets, geotextiles, and automotive upholstery. Malaysian-made coir fiber is exported worldwide for its quality.
Coco Block (Compressed Cocopeat)
Coco blocks are compressed cocopeat bricks that expand when soaked in water. They're convenient for shipping and storage — a single 5kg block can produce up to 75 liters of growing medium. Popular with retail garden centers and hobby gardeners.
Rice Husk Ash
While not a coconut product, rice husk ash is an important agricultural by-product we supply. It's rich in silica and used in cement production, steel manufacturing, and as a soil amendment. Malaysian rice mills produce large quantities of rice husk, which we process and supply in bulk.
Palm Kernel Shell
Palm kernel shell (PKS) is a biomass fuel source from the palm oil industry. It has high calorific value and is used in power generation, cement kilns, and industrial boilers. Malaysia, being the world's second-largest palm oil producer, has abundant PKS supply.
